It's a distopian future: The Signaller, John, is in his Living Unit in Techno City. Despite Robot voices singing lullabies to try and sooth him, he still can’t sleep. He's a new breed of programmer who uses subliminal 'Semaphore' Signals for advertising campaigns which help to ensure compliance with government policy and mass obedience.

John is depressed because he's heard that people are suffering mental health problems as a result of advertising campaigns he's worked on. Recently a mysterious 'Mother Nature' type figure has been appearing in his dreams, making him question his lifestyle even more. After hardly any sleep, it’s soon morning - his alarms ring and it's time for another day working for The Machine.
